Giving and Sponsorships
Every great institution eventually faces a moment of renewal — not just of its equipment, but of its very fabric. We are fortunate that at this time in the life of our club, we have an exceptional shed, outstanding fleet, and a community that believes deeply in the ethos of Yarra.
There will come a time when we will need to invest in renewal. The shed, our home, will one day require significant investment and our position at Princes’ Bridge may face an existential threat. It is our responsibility — to the generations who have stewarded our Club and to those who will inherit it — to be ready. Whether your gift is modest or transformational, it will be received with deep gratitude and directed with care.
“We did not inherit this Club. We borrow it from those who come after us.”
Introducing the Yarra Yarra Rowing Club Future Fund
Yarra Yarra have had an Equipment Replacement Fund for some time. The current Committee, with support from our Co-Patrons Fiona Dickson-Speed and Mark Brown, have recently endorsed the introduction of a Future Fund for the club.
Every dollar given to the Equipment Replacement Fund goes towards keeping our fleet up to date and on the water. Every dollar given to the Future Fund is a brick in the foundation of everything that comes next.
The long-term aspiration is ambitious but achievable: to accumulate sufficient capital so that the returns materially support the Club’s long-term operations. Most critically, the Future Fund will ensure that when the shed needs to be rebuilt or the Club fundamentally renewed, the means to do so exist.
The Future Fund is a long-term endowment. In the early years, it will be overseen by the Committee and, in time, the Committee will appoint a skilled group of member trustees with a clearly defined remit. Funds will be identified separately in the Club’s balance sheet and, as the corpus grows, may be held in a dedicated account or invested in a portfolio with an identified performance profile.
A gift to the Future Fund is a gift measured not in months, but in generations. It is the most lasting expression of what this Club means to you.
Ways to Give
While the Future Fund is an ambitious, long-term program, Yarra is grateful for any donation, no matter the size. If you prefer to give to a more immediate program, the Club’s Equipment Replacement Program ensures that we are best-placed to renew our fleet and equipment in the short term. Should you wish to leave a legacy, you might consider leaving a gift in your will.
In all cases, donors are warmly asked to nominate their gift specifically to the Equipment Replacement Fund or the Future Fund, to ensure your support is directed exactly as you intend.
Tax-Deductible Donation — Australian Sports Foundation
Gifts made through the Australian Sports Foundation (ASF) are fully tax-deductible. This is the only way to make a tax-deductible donation to the Club. Through the YYRC link to the ASF website, you will see two donation options to either the Equipment Replacement Fund or Future Fund.
Gift in Your Will
A bequest is among the most meaningful gifts a member can make. You may include a clause in your will, or add a codicil to an existing will, directing a portion of your estate to the Club. Bequests may be directed to either Fund, and we encourage you to speak with your solicitor about how to formalise your intention.
Direct Gift to the Club
If you do not require a tax-deductible receipt, you are warmly welcome to give directly to the Club. Direct gifts allow the maximum flexibility for immediate application to your chosen Fund.
Corporate Sponsorship
Businesses and organisations wishing to support the Club may do so through a sponsorship arrangement, managed via tax invoice. This pathway is well-suited to those who wish to support the Club’s work while recognising their business connection to the community we serve. For more information on sponsorhip opportunities, please contact the President at info@yyrc.com.au.
Stewardship and Recognition
The Committee and Co-Patrons of Yarra Yarra Rowing Club take their responsibility to donors seriously. Individual and lifetime giving will be monitored and reported, and all donors will be acknowledged in our Annual Report — unless you prefer your gift to remain anonymous.
We will work with donors to ensure that appropriate and personal recognition is developed in a meaningful way, recognising the generosity and contribution of our members and friends.
To make a gift, discuss your intentions, or learn more about either Fund, please reach out to us directly. We would be delighted to speak with you.
